Travel Grants

The funds available for both WASPAA and SPS travel awards have now been completely allocated and we do not accept any further applications. We are looking forward to welcome the awardees at the Mohonk Mountain House for WASPAA 2017.

The organizing committee of the 2017 IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics is pleased to announce the availability of travel awards to support student authors (and non-student authors from developing countries) attending the conference to be held in Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY, October 15-18, 2017. Currently, there are two types of awards available, with differences in the selection criteria and the award.

If you have any questions, please contact the Awards Chair Sebastian Ewert.

Travel Awards supported by WASPAA

Eligibility:

  • A paper is considered a student paper if and only if the first author is a student at the time of the paper submission deadline.
  • Student papers must be marked so during the paper submission.
  • The award is shared among all students authoring the paper (i.e. one award per paper).
  • All student papers can participate independently of the paper area.
  • All papers shall be equally judged.

Award:

  • An economy air ticket to New York (NY, USA) reimbursed against receipt (up to $1000).
  • Public transportation to New Paltz reimbursed against receipt.
  • Accommodation and meals from Sunday (October 15, 2017) to Wednesday (October 18, 2017) (three nights in total).
  • Free registration.

Selection Criteria:

  • After the review process, the organizing committee compiles a ranked list of student papers based on the initial review scores.
  • Subject to eligibility, the committee selects student papers taking the quality of papers into account while fostering diversity.
  • Note that this process does not require an explicit application.
  • Results are expected to be announced on July 17.

Travel Awards supported by the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS)

Eligibility:

Award:

  • The maximum support is limited to $1000 for non-US applicants, and $500 for US applicants (i.e. for applicants from the same region as where the conference is located).
  • The award is shared among all authors of a paper (i.e. one award per paper).
  • Only a limited number of grants will be awarded, and on a highly competitive basis.
  • The grants will be awarded to applicants who have a genuine need for support, and the paper quality may be taken into consideration while fostering diversity.
  • The grants can only be used to cover the travel expenses for applicants to attend the approved conference/event.
  • The grants, if approved, will be on a reimbursement basis at the conference.
  • The SPS travel grant selection and oversight committees reserve the right to make the final decision regarding all applications.

Application:

  • Applications should be sent to the WASPAA Awards Chair Sebastian Ewert, including:
    • confirmation of membership (IEEE Signal Processing Society),
    • recommendation letter,
    • CV of the applicant,
    • reasons for why the applicant is in need of the grant.
  • Applications will be considered until the exhaustion of funds and not after September 1, 2017.
